Sarsfields defeated in Secondary League

Charlestown Sarsfields had their first senior outing of the season when they travelled to Castlebar Mitchels to take on the hosts in the dirt round of the new secondary league. The Sarsfields fielded a very depleted and under strength side on the day and were put to the sword by a fitter and stronger Mitchels side who emerged victorious on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-6. The Sarsfields were very rusty in their play with several players off the pace but it must be said they have done little or no collective training since their Connacht final defeat to Corofin and won’t be unduly worried as the season has a long way to run and they will strip a lot fitter given some hard weeks on the training paddock as they set about the onerous task of trying to retain their Moclair Cup and league titles. The Mitchels are many peoples idea of Moclair Cup champions for 2010 and they have a wealth of talent at their disposal and will be definitely be there or thereabouts come the business end of the season. This defeat left the Sarsfields with plenty to mull over as they get set to blow away the cobwebs from their close season hibernation. Players are chomping at the bit to get back on the paddock and with the league only a matter of weeks away there’s plenty of time for hard training and fine tuning.

Enda McLoughlin wins All –Ireland title
Congratulations are extended to Enda McLoughlin son of Kevin and Eileen McLoughlin who was part of the Ballyhaise College (Cavan) team who won their first All-Ireland Agri Colleges Football title in 35 years when they defeated Kildalton College comprehensively in the final on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-5. Enda lined out at corner back on the victorious team and tuned in a rock solid display by all accounts defending with great determination and commitment and played a big part in bringing home the title to the Cavan College which generated great scenes of joy and excitement in the college among their mentors and supporters. Enda is a prominent member of the Charlestown Sarsfields G.A.A. club and featured on the junior and under-21 teams last season and hopefully he will be a key member of both teams for the new 2010 season. Well done Enda on your great success and he joins a select club of all-Ireland winners in the club. Enda is studying agriculture in Ballyhaise College and his many friends wish him every success in his future studies.

Charlestown Sarsfields Annual Lotto/County Board Ticket Deal

Charlestown Sarsfields G.A.A. Club are offering their members a great deal at the moment with Annual Lotto Tickets and County Board Ticket available for a combined total of 100 Euro. Both tickets normally cost 170 Euro if bought separately but the club have come up with a new initiative in order to boost sales and generate some much needed revenue for the 2010 season. There is a great prize fund on offer to the public with the county board ticket offering upwards of 100 000 in prizes over six monthly draws and the annual lotto draw allowing you to have a chance of winning the weekly jackpot which now stands at the princely sum of 7 200 Euro. There has been a very positive response to date to the combined ticket offer and the club are going all out to promote and secure as many ticket sales as possible in order to keep the exchequer in the black so to speak. Your support for the draw would be very much appreciated and for further details you can contact Chairman K.J. Durkin on 087-2625055, Secretary Kevin Deignan 086-6010883, Treasurer Enda Casey 086-3611981. Tickets are still available and all support would be very gratefully received.

The club are hoping for a large turnout and there will be a big prize fun more details of which will be released later when they come to hand. The club is looking for as much help as possible on the night to ensure the punters enjoy the game and your support would be very much appreciated as the club strive to generate funds to offset the huge costs it takes to run the club and the many teams it fields in all competitions.

Sarsfields contribute to Haiti Fund
The Charlestown Sarsfields G.A.A.
