Under-21`s defeat Shrule/Glencorrib
Charlestown Sarsfields kept alive their play-off hopes with a nail biting 0-12 to 1-8 victory over Shrule /Glencorrib in their second round group game played at Shrule last week. It was a must win game for the Sarsfields having been defeated by Kiltaine in their opening match and they showed bags of spirit and tenacity to dig out a result in a game that looked to be slipping away from them in the final frantic few minutes when the home side threw everything at the sarsfields in a bid to snatch the victory. The Sarsfields didn’t buckle however and just about deserved their victory and they had good performances from the likes of Patrick Walsh and Damien Ward in defence who were outstanding with Alan Doherty, Shane Gallagher, Paul Ward and Sean Mulvaney doing the business up front and securing the crucial scores to keep the Sarsfields alive in what’s turning up to be a very competitive group. Keeper Gareth O`Donnell must come in for a special mention as he saved a crucial penalty mid way through the second half to preserve the Sarsfields lead and did very well between the posts for the second game in succession.

Under-12`s Defeated by St Gerard’s

The Sarsfields came home empty handed however as the home side put in a strong second half performance to overhaul the sarsfields and claim both points. The Sarsfields can be pleased with their performance as they were short several regulars and showed commendable battling qualities and spirit to force the home side to pull out all the stops before eventually going under by a couple of points. The Sarsfields will be hoping to build on this performance in the coming weeks and secure the win their efforts most definitely deserve.
